As a lead-up to the awesomeness that will occur in a couple weeks, EmpireLifeMag.Com will be highlighting each amazing workshop facilitator to gain more insight and confirm why they are perfect to help unlock our next level!

Next up, we introduce Ashley Maltbia, Managing Partner of The Maverick Firm.

Detroit native Ashley Maltbia believes that every person has the duty to follow their passion and live in their purpose.  After graduating from Howard University, Ashley relocated to Atlanta, GA where her entrepreneurial spirit was ignited and she began a career in Commercial Real Estate serving as the Vice-President of Industrial Investment Sales. As one of very few African-Americans and even fewer women in Commercial Real Estate, she quickly excelled and was featured repeatedly in the Atlanta Business Chronicle as a rising young star of 23 years old.  She simultaneously went on to obtain an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland, University College and launched her own business.

Ashley currently serves as Managing Partner of The Maverick Firm, offering full service financial advising, insurance, and retirement planning. As co-host of the popular iMaverick radio show, Ashley is a conduit, providing a financial voice to underserved communities.  A seasoned public speaker, Ashley continues to mentor and service the community through volunteer efforts and entrepreneurial mentorship to cultivate the next generation of business leaders.

She is a member of the Howard University Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Empire Life: Tell us a little bit about your journey from Howard to Atlanta. How did Atlanta help you cultivate your career?

Ashley Maltbia: After graduating Howard, I had a stint in corporate America working in government contracting. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for freedom and discovering my purpose. I quit my job, packed up my car, left whatever didn’t fit in my 2 door, and moved to Atlanta in the middle of the night.

There was just something about the possibility that I would be able to take a chance on myself and my dreams that lured me to Atlanta.

I had to work for myself, I had to find what God had in store for me, and I had to do it in Atlanta. That was in 2011 and I have not looked back since. Moving to Atlanta, much like going to Howard University, was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

EL: Why is it important for millennials to be financially responsible?

AM: Millennials are the most educated generation to date.

We are getting the degrees, starting our careers, navigating complex landscapes, traveling, creating cultures, yet we are the most in debt.

We have mounting student loans, many are not able to buy homes, and the stress is mounting. Knowing how money works and how to keep and grow the money we’re making is key to building financial legacies.

EL: As a workshop facilitator at The Unlocked Summit, what does it mean to you to empower other women?

AM: It means empowering an entire community. As the old African proverb goes: If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation.”

EL: What do you want registrants to take away from your workshop?

AM: Tangible ways to start where they are and use what they have to reach their financial goals.

EL: Leave us with one bit of advice for young women on the journey to build their empire.

AM: Don’t let other people’s highlight reel determine your journey. This entrepreneurial path isn’t a straight line to “success”, it’s full of ups, downs, and unpredictable curveballs. Surround yourself with genuine people that get it, will lift you higher and help you along the way.
