Successful Blogging: 5 Key Strategies

Read a few blogs and said “I can do that.” That’s great! But, before you jump in head-first, be sure to do your research on where you fit in and how to create an impact. If you haven’t already thought of your execution plan, here are 5 tips to help jump start your blogging process, and if you’ve already started, hopefully these tidbits can give you a bit of a boost.

1) Why are you blogging?

First and foremost, why are you blogging? Do you like to write? Are you creative? Are you imaginative? What is your purpose? Maybe these questions sound silly or insulting, but you would be surprised at how many people jump on the bandwagon of the blogging fad without considering if it’s what they really want to do.

2) Determine your audience

Who are you talking to? Who will benefit from what you have to say? It would be a major letdown if you put all of your handwork and time into writing and no one read it or appreciated it. Research your potential followers and supporter. Don’t be afraid to administer a short survey to gauge people’s interest.

3) Visibility

Blog, blog, blog! It’s so important that once you start to keep up the momentum. You want to be a trusted brand. When I get used to going to a trusted source for information its devastating if they become unreliable. No matter the topic, it’s all about consistency. Staying true to your content will build a strong following base for your blog. Trust and consistency are the keys to a successful blog, especially if you have a business directly connected to the purpose of your blog.

4) Relevance

Now that you’ve identified your audience and presented yourself to them, your aim is to hit a home run each time you publish a post. Keep current and even ahead of news. If your blog is about tree houses then talking about soup in the fall isn’t a good story. In other words, don’t get side tracked; get right to the point. Another way to maintain relevancy is to write as a guest on others blogs. Find someone you can collaborate with to expand the reach of your message. Lastly, be sure to use social media to promote your blog; directing readers to your blog with each post.

5) Be Unique

Don’t follow the crowd. Be as daring as possible, but honest. Speak directly to your audience. Create stories that’ll assist you in standing out against others. Being true to you wins over fake any day; you will be memorable.
