Even though the Chicago weather was a bit unseasonably cool August 25th, the atmosphere is so warm with love and support for the woman of the hour, Yvonne Ivy-Stephens.
Penthouse Sweets hosted their VIP Sneak Peak at the posh I|O Urban Roofscape at the Godfrey Hotel. I was in complete awe of the event, lush flower centerpieces with petals scattered on fresh white linen, the breathtaking downtown Chicago buildings surrounding us… it was absolutely GORGEOUS! But before I tell you more about the evening, here’s a little about Penthouse Sweets and their owner:
Chef Yvonne Ivy-Stephens started cultivating a fondness for baking at the age of 18, she pursued that passion by attending The Illinois Institute of Art Chicago located in her hometown. She went on to work and intern for 5-star restaurants, various local bakeries, hotels, cupcake boutiques, and couture wedding cake companies. Her tenure with these companies as kitchen manager and head decorator, has allowed the opportunity to serve one sitting president (President Barack Obama), Former President Bill Clinton and Chicago’s mayor Rahm Emanuel, as well as a host of celebrities. Her well rounded and kitchen managerial experience has led her to start and successfully run Penthouse Sweets Inc.. She continues to update her skill sets with new techniques from world renowned chefs. Chef Yvonne and her husband have 3 lovely daughters, Erin (8), Sacha (7), & Kassidy (6), who sometimes “assists” her in the kitchen.
Penthouse Sweets is a custom dessert studio that specializes in one-of-a-kind custom cakes. Located in Chicago, they proudly service the Chicago and Northwest Indiana area and all its surrounding suburbs. PHS ultimate goal is to be a part of the conversation when it comes to wedding and specialty cakes. Founded in 2014, Penthouse Sweets has grown from a small idea to a company to watch for in the years to come.
The event was hosted by the flawless Val Warner of Windy City Live, who was so down-to-earth and inviting. Definitely not what one would expect from a beautiful woman who is on TV every day so you know I was pleasantly surprised. Guests were able enjoy free hand massages and mix and mingle with yummy champagne with raspberry compote (so good) while taking in the sights. We left with AWESOME gift bags with products from Z Gallerie, Shea Moisture and more. The bags were practically overflowing with top-notch goodies.
Yvonne purposely invited the people who support her to celebrate her announcement of opening her very own bakery that will be located in Alsip, IL. Her husband and her team beamed with pride as she talked about her business and how far she had come in one short year. Yvonne shared her story of how she began college but was unhappy so she made the decision to go to culinary school and it was the best decision she made. Everyone who has had the opportunity to try her delicious treats is happy about that decision too, I’m sure!
Last but certainly not least, the dessert bar that consisted of cake bites, glam pops, cookies and tasty verrines and gorgeous display cakes. As a friend and supporter of Yvonne and Penthouse Sweets, I want to publicly thank her for her continuous support of Black woman-owned businesses of Chicago and congratulate her on beginning a new chapter in her very own business. It truly warms my heart to see women successfully walking in their journey to the top as they build their empires. All I can say is, you go girl.
