We stress over our commute, bills, business, friend, family, and the list just keeps going! It’s always, busy, busy, busy! Or work, work, work! With little time to relax. As a result the stress builds within our bodies, and you know what happens when your body goes into stress overload. You break out, notice more belly fat and if you are not working out there are a ton of other internal issues caused by stress. So yes, STRESS is a silent killer! But, how do you get rid of it? With hot yoga!
Hot yoga for Stress Relief!
If you have ever taken yoga before, you have probably experienced all the poses and stretches, and hopefully without scaring you away. Hot yoga turns up the volume a notch, so to speak. There are multiple ways to practices yoga and this one is called Vinyasa,
This vigorous style of yoga links movement from pose to pose with breath, creating internal heat which helps to purify the body and mind. From time to time, depending on the instructor, there will be blocks and belts used. Otherwise no other instruments are needed. The goal is to use your own body to build your strength. Add heat to Vinyasa and you have hot yoga.
In hot yoga, the room is usually around 85-90 degrees, with dim lighting, candles and music to keep you centered. The heat coupled with the breathing and vigorous movements is a pure detox! Sweat will be dripping and you will feel your body coming alive as the minutes and movements progress.
Classes are mostly for an hour. Each instructor has his or her own routine that generally starts slow and in parts, and as the pace picks up the routines build on each other. The ‘cool down’ portion of the class happens to be my favorite, not because it means class ending, but because you get to lay completely relaxed and as you wish. And it’s perfectly normal to hear a bit of snoring! During this time the instructor will come around and massage oil on your temples and spray the room with aromatherapy infused water, it is soooooo relaxing! Once it’s over you will feel rejuvenated, relaxed and refreshed.
Please, don’t be intimidated by the heat, nor the poses. You choose your pace and the more you go the more muscle strength and endurance you’ll build.
Try it out some time, I think you will love it! Check out Yoga Journal for local availability. Be sure to keep me in the loop, I’d love to know if you’ve found a class that works for you! Happy de-stressing!
