Cleaning Out the Cobwebs: 6 Spring Cleaning Health Tips

It’s here again, that strong impulse that stirs up your innermost desire to emerge from winter hibernation, dust off the cobwebs and put everything in its place. Just what is it about spring that makes you want to tidy up your house? Perhaps it’s the sun, finally returning from winter vacation and shining light on all the dark corners of our lives. Regardless the reason for the immense desire to get yo life, it’s also a great opportunity to organize your health. Wondering where to start,  don’t worry we have your back with these 6 spring cleaning health tips:

1. Throw Away Expired Meds

Ummm… no you don’t need that extra penicillin for a rainy day. If the expiration has passed- better yet if you can’t read the expiration date because the label is old and decrepit, toss it. If it smells funny or looks funny, that’s also grounds for disposal. Find a drug disposal location near you.

2. Purge Old Makeup

Yes that includes that bright red lipstick from last season that brought all the boys to the yard. Expired makeup houses bacteria and can age you. Here are your expiration dates for your makeup and while you are at it, clean your brushes too.

  • Powders 2 years
  • Foundations 12-18 months
  • Lipstick 1 year
  • Mascara 3 months

3. Eat Seasonal

Its true! You really are what you eat. Eating seasonally fresh fruits and veggies are better for you and your pocket. Foods grown locally at the peak of their season offer optimal flavor and nutrients. Spring is the season of apricots, melon, mango, spinach and asparagus, to name a few.

4. Forget ABC, head straight for Zzzz

We recently had to take a chapter from our own book. Adequate sleep leads to better concentration, mood, and decreases stress and calories. So make sleep a priority.

5. 15 min brisk walk daily

Remember those resolutions from the beginning of the year. Yep, just 4 months ago to be exact. Remember the one about exercising everyday, blah blah blah. The number one reason for unsuccessful New Year’s resolutions is unrealistic goals and expectations. A 15 min walk daily is not exactly equivalent to 30 minutes 3 times per week, but it’s a great start and attainable.

6. Get an extra dose of Me Time

As an Empirelista, sometimes you are the CEO, COO, Director and Brand Ambassador, all rolled into one. Sometimes you can be so busy establishing your empire, working your day job and caring for your family that you forget about yourself. Schedule some me time daily. A 15 min chair massage, reading a chapter from your favorite book or singing in the shower to your favorite Yoncé jam can be just the rejuvenation you need to make it through the day

Keep these tips handy when starting your spring cleaning. These tips will lead to a better, healthier and more successful you.
